The thought of putting together a baby first aid kit could be a little frightful at first, but it doesn’t need to be. Knowing that you have you a few simple items on hand ready to help save the day should be comforting.
First aid kits will vary in size and needs depending on the age of your little one, but for now, our focus is those cute precious little babies’. For the most part, for the first 6 months, babies’ can’t really have much of anything except for breast milk or formula which makes it a tad difficult and scary when your poor baby isn’t feeling well and there’s not much you can do but give them extra loving.
Let’s be honest, especially if you’re a new mom — having a brand new baby is stressful it’s self, you already barely know what you’re doing — then add your little one being fussy and crying non-stop and you have no idea why or what to do…. the stress levels can reach record-breaking highs! So let’s bring your levels back down a few notches and help calm and soothe your little love bug!
Remember: you should always talk to your baby’s pediatrician for appropriate doses before giving any types of medicine.
With that being said, let’s get right into the Best BabyFfirst Aid Kit!
Thermometer
Choosing the right kind of thermometer doesn’t need to be tricky. When you’re taking a babies’ temperature, I always preferred to take it rectally. I know that doesn’t seem like the easiest way or the most comfortable, but to me, it is always the most accurate and when it comes to your babies’ health — accuracy is best. Just make sure you have some 100% pure petroleum jelly (Vaseline) for baby and everyone will be a little happier. I also liked to keep a digital thermometer in the diaper bag for on-the-go easy use.
Pain Reliever / Fever Reducer
When it comes to giving your baby acetaminophen (Tylenol) or children s Ibuprofen/Motrin, some parents are either totally against it or are perfectly okay with it. I happen to believe a pain reliever/fever reducer is an absolute must-have in your baby first aid kit. If your baby is under 2 years old it is always important to remember, no matter the medicine or the brand of the medicine always ask your baby’s healthcare provider for the appropriate dose amount before administrating it and of course read the label thoroughly!!
Tylenol is always good to have on hand because you never know when your precious little baby is going to spike a fever or when a little tooth thinks it wants to try to pop out. Both are very uncomfortable for the little one and no one ever wants to see their babies’ in pain. Infants Motrin is also a good one to have handy. Like Tylenol, it helps with pain and fever and lasts up to 8 hours — so you don’t have to administer as often.
Butt Cream
Baby butts are just so cute. I mean, how can you even disagree with that? When you are in need of a diaper rash cream, the first thing that comes to my mind is to get one that works and works really well and fast!! A diaper rash can be so uncomfortable and painful.
I found that Destin Maximum Strength always worked wonders for my little man. Although, I’ve never used Boudreaux’s Butt Paste — I hear that one is great too and highly recommended, but of course every baby is different, so if you find something that works better for your baby, then use that one — and don’t forget to share with the rest of us what works best for you!
Nose Frida
When I say Nose Frida, you may want to run the other way thinking there’s no possible way you are going to suck the snot out of your baby’s little nose, but trust me — IT WORKS!!! I mean, the idea its self sounds traumatic, and to be completely honest — your baby is probably going to be upset with you when you’re using it. However, I must say — it blows the snot right out of all the other options.
Don’t worry — you won’t end up with any slimy snot in your mouth. The Nose Frida is hygienic and creatively crafted with disposable filters to suck and trap the mucus out plus the other pieces are dishwasher safe making it easy to be sterilized.
I recommend getting NoseFrida The Snotsucker Baby Aspirator and Saline Spray Kit with 10 Hygiene Filters by FridaBaby — Sinus Congestion for Newborns up to Toddlers — it comes with everything you will need to help clear the congestion and runny nose from your baby.
Nail Care
Another scary thought in your baby first aid kit — nail clippers!! The thought of accidentally cutting your little baby s finger is without a doubt dreadful, the combination of a squirmy worm of a baby and those cute little fingers and toes and a possible sight of blood can be terrifying, but it is something that just has to be done. If your a dad reading this — don’t worry my husband would never cut our son’s nails.
He left that panic attack for me, so I’m sure it is safe to assume mamma bear will be taking over this task for you too. Rest assured because honestly, it’s really only scary the first time. I always liked to keep an extra pair of nail clippers in the diaper bag or in my baby first aid kit handy especially for the car rides. Babies almost always fall asleep in the car, at that my friend is one of the best times to grab your fingernail clippers out and trim or file those cute delicate little baby fingers and toenails.
The Safety 1st Sleepy Baby Nail Clippers are a good one to have whether you are on a car ride or if the little one is snoozing away in his crib. The Safety 1st Sleepy Baby Nail Clippers comes with a built-in LED light to help guide you with ease through baby s sweet dreams. Plus, it has a large slip-free grip handle for an extra sense of ease.
Products that work
I used to think I was going to be that “all organic mom” I remember thinking I want everything to be all-natural or at least as much all-natural as possible. Making sure your babies’ are as healthy as can be is always the first priority so picking the best products to use for baby is important! My son is a smart, happy, and healthy tot — and let me tell you what… I am definitely not the “all organic mom” I thought I would be and that is perfectly okay. Shout to the moms that can literally do it all — you are #MomGoals. At the end of the day, get the products that work best for your baby because that is what really matters. My Best Baby First Aid Kit helped me and I believe it will help you too.
Whether or not you give your baby all or organic food, or creams, or whatever it may be — just remember you are doing your best and your baby is happy and loved.
